Ashenden

Ashenden is a tale of paranoia in South London.

A young man thinks he sees his doppelgänger on a bus, going past his flat. He dismisses it. The next day he sees it again, and he decides to investigate.

Although only three minutes in length, Ashenden manages to create and sustain tension out of very little material. Set on a 1950s housing estate, it's a visual and tonal marriage made in thriller heaven, and what ensues is first class. Its Japanese-inspired soundtrack is jarring, but adds to the piece's feel of dislocation and the uncanny. And, most importantly, the conclusion is a treat.
